Who we are

GUTBASKET FOODS PRIVATE LIMITED, Shop No. A-05, Vinayak Riverside, Opp. Shanti Botonica, Randesan, Raysan, Gandhinagar — 382007, Gujarat, India (“GutBasket”, “we”). We are the data fiduciary for the personal data described here under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP).

What we collect, and why

• Account details — your mobile number (used to sign in via OTP), and optionally your name and email. Purpose: creating and securing your account.
• Ferment activity — your jars, recipes, progress, streaks and check-ins. Purpose: running the app’s tracking features and syncing them across your devices.
• Companion conversations & photos — your chat messages, and any jar photos you share for a safety check. Photos are processed in real time to generate the answer and are not stored on our servers. Purpose: answering your questions.
• Wellbeing diary (optional) — if you opt in, your daily “how are you feeling” check-ins and related notes. This is health-related personal data; it is collected only with your explicit consent, is private to you, and can be turned off anytime. Purpose: your personal diary and trends; anonymised, aggregate statistics.
• Purchase & entitlement info — order references used to verify your kit purchase, and (if you subscribe on the web) your subscription status. We never see or store card/UPI details — payments are handled by Razorpay. Purpose: unlocking the app and Premium.
• Usage & device data — app events and approximate device information via analytics. Purpose: fixing problems and improving the app.

AI processing

The companion’s answers, photo checks and generated recipes are produced with AI (a large language model provided by Anthropic). Your messages and photos are sent to that provider to generate the response. AI answers are educational guidance about food, not medical advice and not a safety guarantee — when in doubt, throw it out.

Who we share data with

We share data only with the service providers below, only as needed to run the app. We do not sell your personal data.

• Supabase — authentication and database hosting.
• Anthropic — AI processing for the companion.
• MSG91 — delivering sign-in OTPs by SMS/WhatsApp.
• Spur — WhatsApp reminders/nudges (if you’ve opted in).
• Razorpay — payment processing for web Premium.
• Shopify — matching your kit order to unlock the app.
• Google Analytics — usage analytics.

How long we keep it

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, all of it — profile, jars, chats, wellbeing diary, notification settings — is permanently removed. Records of payments/orders may be retained longer where tax or other laws require it.

Security

All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and stored with access controls. No system is perfectly secure, but we minimise what we collect — for example, jar photos are never stored.

Your rights

• Access & correction — see and edit your details in the app’s Profile screen.
• Deletion — delete your account and all data from the app (Profile → Delete account) or at app.gutbasket.com/delete-account — no reinstall needed.
• Withdraw consent — turn off the wellbeing diary or WhatsApp messages anytime; withdrawing consent doesn’t affect prior lawful processing.
• Grievances — contact our grievance officer at support@gutbasket.com. We respond within 30 days. If unsatisfied, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

Children

The app is intended for adults (18+). We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

If we change this policy materially, we’ll notify you in the app before the change takes effect.
